Protection & Controls Engineering with our large power and utilities client in Charlotte, NC. This is a 12-month contract with a potential for extension. This is a hybrid position - 3 days a week in office.
Pay: $64.00 - $69.00/hr; W2 contract, no PTO, no Benefits. ACA-compliant supplemental package available for enrollment.

The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Workers in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve.
Job Summary
Protection & Controls Engineering:- Responsible for the design of protection and control relaying applications for substations (new and existing) with a specific focus on Protection Settings and SCADA Settings.
- Design projects range from routine equipment modifications and installations to the complete design of new transmission facilities.
- This work requires an understanding of power systems, transformers, protective relaying, and electrical engineering principles.
- Involved in the development and review of designs for high voltage substations at voltages of 15kV, 44kV, 69kV, 100kV, 130kV, 230kV and 345kV.
- Additionally, expected to develop or possess expertise in protective relay settings calculations and analysis based on current and evolving standards (IEEE, NERC, etc.).
- Must be able to manage multiple projects in various stages of design so as to meet project schedule deadlines; provide design support to field personnel during project implementation; develop and maintain sufficient level of expertise in use of CAD software for efficient production of engineering work; and collaborate in a team environment to spread knowledge and to produce the best quality product possible.
Job Responsibilities:- Coordinates work to manage multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely release of engineering designs.
- Utilizes a variety of tools and techniques to complete an engineering design, including current design specifications, pertinent code manuals, computer aided design/drafting software, and other reference sources.
- Produces engineering release packages consisting of pertinent drawings and bills of material.
- Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.
- Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.
- Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
- Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
- Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.
- Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
- Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
Basic Qualifications:- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer.
- A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
- Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
